FedEx Secures More than 20 Million Gallons of SAF for U.S. Operations

Global delivery giant FedEx announced a series of new agreements anticipated to secure more than 20 million gallons of neat sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) for use at five U.S. airports through 2027.

The new agreements mark an expansion of FedEx’s deployment of SAF across its U.S. air network, following deals in 2025 which secured approximately 5 million gallons of neat SAF resulting in the deployment of 16.5 million gallons of blended SAF at U.S. airports.

In 2021, FedEx announced a goal to achieve carbon neutrality in operations by 2040, allocating $2 billion in investments to reach its goal, with a focus on key areas including vehicle electrification, sustainable energy, and carbon sequestration. FedEx said that the new agreements align with its goal to source 30% of jet fuel blended from alternative sources by 2030.

The new agreements cover FedEx operations at Newark Liberty International Airport (EWR), Oakland International Airport (OAK), Miami International Airport (MIA), John F. Kennedy International Airport (JFK), and Dallas Fort Worth International Airport (DFW).

According to FedEx, through the next phase of procurement, SAF blends will represent a significant share of FedEx jet fuel use at the five airports. Blend ratios are expected to range from 30% to 50%, depending on location, the company said.

The company added that it will continue evaluating opportunities to expand SAF use where supply, infrastructure, and economics align with the needs of its air network.

Karen Blanks Ellis, Chief Sustainability Officer and Vice President of Environmental Affairs at FedEx, said:

“For the market to grow, supply needs to be reliable, affordable, and sustainable. Expanding our procurement allows us to employ more SAF in our network while bolstering the demand for greater production and scale.”
