Eurazeo Acquires Water Loss Solutions Platform Miya Water

French investment firm Eurazeo announced that it has entered into an agreement to acquire a majority stake in Spain-based water efficiency solutions provider Miya Water, with the transaction aimed at supporting the company’s international expansion and accelerating the growth of its platform to help utilities reduce water loss.

Miya marks the fourth investment through Eurazeo’s impact buyout strategy, Eurazeo Planetary Boundaries Fund (EPBF). Launched in 2024, EPBF is a thematic impact buyout fund focused on investing in businesses that contribute to reversing or adapting to the overstepping of planetary boundaries. Eurazeo has set a €750 million fund size for EPBF.

Founded in 2007, Madrid-based Miya provides solutions that help water utilities drastically reduce Non-Revenue Water (NRW) – water that is produced but lost before reaching customers through leaks, theft or metering errors – and to optimize resource management. Since launch, Miya has implemented more than 200 projects across five continents.

According to Eurazeo, the transaction comes as water efficiency emerges as a major infrastructure and environmental investment theme, driven by ageing networks, increasing pressure on water resources and the growing impacts of climate change. NRW is estimated at 126 billion cubic meters annually, enough to meet the annual water needs of hundreds of millions of people and representing a major economic challenge for water utilities worldwide.

The companies said that Miya’s founders, along with the management team, will continue to drive the company strategically and will remain a significant co-investor alongside EPBF.

Noam Komy, Executive Chairman of Miya, said:

“We are very pleased to be joining forces with Eurazeo. We share the conviction that the next stage of Miya’s development is not simply about becoming larger, but about building a broader international water services platform around the expertise that has made Miya a category leader.

Eurazeo noted that the new investment directly contributes to three Planetary Boundaries, including Freshwater Change, as the company limits the abstraction, treatment and pumping of water; Pollution, by diverting organic pollution from rivers to wastewater treatment systems, and; Climate Change, thanks to the avoided GHG emissions as water is no longer abstracted, treated or pumped, avoiding its embedded energy.

Erwann Le Ligné and Wilfried Piskula, Managing Partners, Co-Heads at EPBF, said:

“We believe that water efficiency will become one of the defining infrastructure challenges of the coming decades, and that Miya is uniquely positioned to shape the future of the sector on a global scale.”
