Retail giant Walmart announced a strategic investment in home energy and battery storage company Base Power, alongside a new partnership aimed at expanding access to affordable home battery systems and supporting grid reliability.

Founded in 2023, Texas-based Base Power provides solutions to reinforce the electricity grid using distributed energy storage. The company offers a home energy service powered by distributed batteries, enabling users to utilize the batteries during outages, while supporting the grid during times of peak need.

Base Powe CEO Zach Dell said:

“We’ve built Base around a simple idea: families deserve electricity that’s affordable when the grid is working and dependable backup power when it isn’t.”

Under the new agreement, Base’s home energy offerings available to Walmart customers and Sam’s Club members. Customers and members who enroll in an eligible Base Power home battery offering at participating Walmart and Sam’s Club locations will receive a 20% discount on the company’s standard upfront battery installation fee, beginning in November 2026.

The companies said that the offering will initially launch in Texas, Base Power’s largest market, with plans to expand to additional locations and markets over time.

Shayne Wahlmeier, SVP of Walmart Energy, said:

“Customers and members count on Walmart and Sam’s Club to help them make the most of their budgets.
