Pulse Fund Raises $63 Million to Back Climate Solutions Startups Across Interconnected Sectors

Climate-focused venture capital investment firm Pulse Fund announced the close of its inaugural fund, raising $63 million in commitments to back early-stage scalable climate companies across the energy transition, infrastructure, food and agriculture, and mobility sectors.

Founded in 2022, Pulse Fund was established by climate tech entrepreneur Tenzin Seldon, who in a post announcing the fund close, describes her drive to tackle the climate crisis as driven by her childhood experience watching glaciers retreat in the Himalayas:

“I grew up in the foothills of the Himalayas, where the mountains were melting in front of me every year and I had no language for what I was seeing. It was the greatest disturbance of my childhood. I came as a refugee to America and in tenth grade, learned the term climate change, and I’ve been working on it since I was sixteen.”

According to Pulse, the fund invests on the basis of a thesis that its key target high-growth sectors – energy transition, infrastructure, food and agriculture and mobility – move together, with breakthroughs in one area, such as a new battery technology, creating opportunities in the others, including an increased electric mobility market, greater agricultural efficiency, and new infrastructure spending, for example.

Seldon said:

“We invest across energy, food and agriculture, infrastructure, and mobility, and we underwrite them together, because a breakthrough in one keeps turning up as the reason a company in another suddenly works. Investors who look at one sector at a time miss those companies, or they price them wrong.”

Pulse Fund’s portfolio to date includes post-wildfire reforestation carbon removal company Mast Reforestation, CO2-based clean fuel developer Twelve, electric mobility solutions provider Endera Motors, and carbon-negative engineered wood producer InventWood.

Seldon added:

“We are at the beginning of the largest capital reallocation in history, and understanding how the energy transition, infrastructure, food and agriculture and mobility move together will define where that capital lands. We back the founders who see those connections before the market does and build companies at the center of them. This close is a mandate to go find more of them.”
