Electric truck manufacturer Harbinger announced that it has received an order from global delivery giant FedEx for 2,000 of its all-electric trucks, with a total order value exceeding $300 million, marking one of the largest binding orders for electric medium- or heavy-duty trucks in history.
The vehicles are planned for delivery by the end of 2027 and will be deployed across FedEx pickup and delivery operations in the U.S. and Canada, replacing the company’s conventional fleet vehicles, and supporting its electrification strategy.
Founded in 2021, California-based Harbinger designs and manufactures chassis for electric commercial and specialty vehicles, designed to support all of popular medium-duty body types, including commercial walk-in vans, recreational vehicles, box trucks, and others. The company’s proprietary electric platform, the electric vehicle stripped chassis, includes all major vehicle systems, which it designs and manufactures in-house in the U.S., aimed at keeping costs down and pricing its EVs at acquisition parity with comparable gasoline and diesel-powered vehicles.
Harbinger estimated that each of its electric trucks can reduce fuel costs by an average of $20,000 annually compared with the conventional diesel vehicle it replaces. Based on these estimates, Harbinger said that a fleet of 2,000 vehicles operating in North America could generate approximately $40 million in annual fuel savings, or $800 million over a typical 20-year vehicle life, and avoid more than 1.7 million tons of CO2 emissions.
John Harris, Co-Founder and CEO, Harbinger, said:
“FedEx is demonstrating that the business case for incorporating electric vehicles into real-world fleet operations at scale makes sense. Our previous work together gave FedEx firsthand experience with the performance and economic advantages Harbinger vehicles can deliver.”
The new order follows an initial purchase in November 2025 by Fed Ex for 53 Harbinger electric vehicles, alongside FedEx’s previous co-lead investment in Harbinger’s $160 million Series C funding round.
FedEx has set a goal to achieve carbon neutral operations by 2040, supported by a target to convert its entire parcel pickup and delivery fleet to zero-emission electric vehicles.
Vinay D’Souza, Senior Vice President of Global Assets and Infrastructure, Fed Ex, said:
“The transportation industry is undergoing a fundamental transformation, and electrification is set to play a pivotal role in the future of commercial fleets. said. This order with Harbinger helps us advance that transition, allowing us to build a more modern, efficient, and intelligent fleet that meets the evolving needs of our customers, our team members, and our global operations.”
