DHL Invests €160 Million in Decarbonization, Infrastructure in France

Logistics giant DHL Group announced plans to invest approximately €160 million (USD$186 million) in France between 2026 and 2027, with a focus on strengthening its logistics infrastructure and supporting its clean energy transition.

According to DHL, a significant portion of the new investment will be directed toward sustainability initiatives supporting its goal of achieving net-zero greenhouse gas emissions from logistics-related activities by 2050, with key initiatives including expanding the company’s electric vehicle fleet and charging infrastructure, increasing the use of sustainable aviation fuel (SAF), deploying solar energy systems across logistics sites, transitioning heavy-duty vehicles to low-carbon fuels such as biodiesel, and continuing the electrification of warehouse equipment and implementation of energy-efficient building technologies.

DHL launched a sustainability roadmap in 2021, which included targets to achieve net-zero greenhouse gas emissions by 2050 and to increase the share of sustainable fuels used in transportation to more than 30% by 2030.

The new investment program will focus on expanding logistics capacity, upgrading infrastructure, and accelerating decarbonization efforts across all DHL divisions in the country.

By division, DHL Express will invest in fleet modernization, electification, charging infrastructure, operational equipment, and network expansion, DHL Global Forwarding will develop alternative fuel vehicles and enhancements to handling equipment and warehousing infrastructure to reduce environmental impact from operations, DHL Freight invest in alternative-fuel vehicles and facilities, and DHL Supply Chain will continue to invest in state-of-the-art warehouse facilities.

Tobias Meyer, CEO of DHL Group said:

“With this investment, we are strengthening our infrastructure, growing our capabilities, and accelerating our transition toward low-emissions logistics. This enables us to better support our customers’ growth while contributing to France’s competitiveness and sustainability ambitions.”
